   From the Village Market to the Whole Country (a fictional story) When Defne Kaya was a child, she often helped her grandmother at the Sunday market in their small town. Her grandmother made wonderful olive oil soap, but only a few people stopped at her stall. "Good products need customers, not only a market," Defne thought. In 2019, while she was studying engineering, Defne built a simple website for her grandmother and four other women from the village. The first months were difficult. Delivery costs were high, and Defne lost most of her savings. Instead of giving up, she talked to a local delivery company and made a cheaper deal. She also taught the women how to take good photos of their products. Today, more than 300 women from different villages sell soap, jam and handmade bags through Defne's website, and they earn their own money. "Next year, we are going to open a small training centre for producers," she says. "I'm sure online shopping will help many more villages in the future."
